C) Control Chokes: |
|
In-Line Valve Co. Control Chokes utilize a ported cage type trim to
provide fine and accurate control of flow. |

Control Choke Trim |
|
Experience coupled with testing have shown
the use of 4 diametrically opposed ports can
provide the highest wear resistance in a
'cage' type flow trim.
The use of 4 small ports in the lower
section of the cage provides fine control at
low openings while the 4 larger ports
provide capacity for higher flows.
4 Port flow geometry provides a balanced
flow pattern which when coupled with the
enlarged body gallery of these chokes will
maximize lifetime and return on investment. |
|
|
| |
|
4x4 Control Choke Trim |
|
Flow is
directed through ports in the flow cage and
accelerates into the centre of the trim
where it impinges on flow from the opposite
port.
Flow rate is adjusted by the use of a plug
moving inside the flow cage 'Plug and Cage'
or by use of a sleeve on the outside of the
flow cage 'External Sleeve'.
Plug and Cage type trims provide a robust
design with maximum flow capacity often used
in oil production and injection service.
External sleeve type trims provide an
optimized resistance to erosion and are
often used for high erosive service and high
pressure gas production. |

Plug and Cage Trim |
|
Flow is
directed through the ports in the trim to
impinge on itself in the centre of the flow
cage. The internally guided plug controls
the opening and rate of flow. The cage is
supported at both ends to provide a rigid
and robust trim suited to Production and
Injection applications.
Large body annulus maximizes Cv and
eliminates body erosion Plug and Cage
control choke trims provide maximum flow
capacity and are used in Production and
Injection service.
The plug shuts off flow by making contact on
an internal prepared surface at the bottom
of the flow cage. |
|
|
| |
|
External Sleeve Trim |
|
Flow is
directed through the ports in the trim to
impinge on itself in the centre of the flow
cage. The externally guided flow sleeve
controls the opening and rate of flow.
External Sleeve and Cage control choke trims
provide maximum wear resistance and are used
in high erosion production and high pressure
service.
Large body annulus maximizes Cv and
eliminates body erosion.
The flow sleeve shuts off flow by making
contact on a seat ring outside of the flow
cage, by keeping the seat surface away from
high velocity flow, the seat integrity is
maintained. |

Special Trim |
|
Special
trims such as this ED “Energy Dissipating”
disk stack can be provided as solutions to
severe service including anti–cavitations,
high pressure drop and low noise service. |
|
|
| |
|
D) Multi-Stage: |
|
|
| |
|
|
| |
|
ED Trim |
|
Model ED choke
is designed as a robust control choke with multistage ‘Energy
Dissipating’ disk stack trim specifically for applications to avoid
cavitations (i.e. water dumping) and for high energy dissipation
such as in high pressure gas production and low noise service. |
| |
.gif) |
|
Several mechanisms are utilized in the design to assist
with the conversion of potential energy (pressure) into
heat without problems of cavitations in liquids caused
by low pressure and the problems of high noise levels
with gasses caused by high velocities.
Splitting the flow into a large number of small streams
reduces the energy levels in each stream.
Large trim surface area maximizes friction against the
fluid. |
|
| |
|
Large number of
changes of direction.
Repeated compression and expansion.
The disk stack has a multiple set of tortuous paths in
parallel to each other with each pathway being a series
of restrictions in series with each other.
Along each pathway there are restrictions and expansion
chambers. In liquid applications the expansion chambers
cause swirling of the fluid increasing the number of
turns – each chamber is equivalent to approximately 3
turns.
The disks are clamped
in position by means of the bonnet bolting. This ensures
the stack can be easily extracted and separated for
cleaning if it should become necessary.
Trim options include
Linear Flow Characteristic, Bi-linear and Tri-linear. |
